Newsletter

Earned Press

A free weekly newsletter on how startups get press. Every Friday: what got covered, why it got covered, and one move you can use for your own company, whether or not you have raised.

What it is

Earned Press is the newsletter of Earned. Every week we read every startup story in 20 outlets, from TechCrunch and Axios to the WSJ and Bloomberg, and code who got covered and why: the company, the stage, the round, the hook that carried the headline and the reporter who wrote it. That data is the Earned Coverage Index. We then line it up against what actually happened, using SEC filings, public market data and the week's deals, and look for the gaps. Those gaps are usually where a founder's story is.

What is in each issue

  1. The week in one number. The single finding from the data that matters most for founders.
  2. Five findings, each with a pitch move. What happened, why it matters, and a "Pitch this" line you can use this week.
  3. Charts from our own data. Built from the Coverage Index, not recycled from someone else's report.
  4. How we count. Every issue says where the numbers come from and where they are soft.
